ITALIAN DANCES

The Italian section of dance and popular traditions started its activities in Rome in Sept. 1984. Chiarantana was a dance performed around 1600,  its name has been given  to the Association. The group has started learning dances in the Centre/Southern Italy and then it has enlarged its repertory to Piedmont, Veneto, Tuscany, Sardinia, covering Italy as far as possible.  This group has the most varied repertory amongst groups performing in Rome.  The dances are still alive in popular tradition, they stimulate active participation during the shows.

The group is in constant touch with traditional dances participating in traditional festivals so as to keep up-dated on dances as well as on local life.  The coordinator, Chiara Bettinali, has a wide experience having attended several workshop held by specialized instructors.  The Group has performed in various events, we mention Viareggio Carnival and Folk Festival related to “Rome Marathon”.
